
Cathelina Duvert, an alumna of Hofstra University with a degree in Creative Writing and Literature, captivates readers with her raw, authentic voice. Her blog, Cathy’s Cross: A Depressive’s Positive Perspective, has earned a dedicated following for its heartfelt chronicles of her personal battles with depression.
Cathelina’s debut novel, The Box, showcases her talent for weaving complex narratives and has been honored by Black Writers Workspace, receiving an Honorable Mention in their 2024 Chapter One Writing Competition. When not crafting stories or sharing her journey, Cathelina dedicates her time to shaping young minds as a 7th and 9th grade ELA teacher in New York City.

“What She Would Have Wanted” tells the story of Colleen, a young woman balancing the raw grief of losing her father and the heavy responsibility of caring for her ailing mother all while managing the demands of her job as a teacher. With the quiet support of Amber, her friend and colleague, and Marie, the home health aide, Colleen confronts exhaustion, self-doubt, and self-criticism. Through moments of tenderness and reflection, she learns that true kindness includes caring for others while remembering to be gentle with herself.
